Fish Trap Rescue on Sea Kayaks, Tunku Adbul Rahman Park, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo

Trap-6
Whilst taking some guests on their Guided Snorkeling Program at our nearby snorkel & scuba dive site "Turtle House" Kenny, one of our Snorkel Guides found a Fish Trap.

Disturbed by his find he reported back to the dive center and once all our guests had left for the day the crew led by Kenny, set about retrieving the trap and freeing the fish inside.

Fish traps are a destructive and illegal fishing method that wastefully catch many reef fish that are too small to be eaten or inedible.

The trap will also damage the reef in the process, in addition many fishermen loose the trap altogether leaving the menace permanently abandoned and continuing to trap fish.

Trap-8
The fish trap was in shallow enough water to retrieve whilst snorkeling so they paddled out on our Sea Kayaks and successfully safely destroyed the fish trap and set free the fish inside with no casualties.

More images from the event can be seen on our Facebook , here you can also see what we all get up to over here in Paradise !
